Philly Sake Club is Hosting a Special Rooftop Pop-Up & Social Mixer at Fishtown Urby Featuring Bites & Plenty of Sake
For the past two years acclaimed chef, Jacob Trinh has been running a side project dubbed Philly Sake Club. The club gathers usually once a month with each month featuring a different food pairing. It just so happens that Fishtown Urby Apartments (1700 N Front St.) caught wind of Chef Trinh’s gatherings and decided to offer their rooftop for their May gathering.
Guests will be able to enjoy grilled yakitori skewers with a couple side dishes and bites. “I also plan to make sunomono (light picked cucumbers), Wontons in chili oil, Kani salad, and potentially a dessert,” Trinh states. But of course the star of the show will be the sake. What better way to usher in the warm weather months than with great bites, sake, music, and rooftop vibes?
“This is a fun event to enjoy the weather, views, light bites, and try some sake that is very spring forward. Each guest will grab a glass with tasting notes and be able to try a selection of sakes and learn about them. At the end of the event, you get to take home your very own glass to use in future sake tastings,” Trinh added.
As for the Philly Sake Club itself, Trinh describes it as a passion project stating, “Philly Sake Club is a passion project of mine. Typically, it is an intimate and casual setting where I gather sakes from across Japan, varying in grades. It is typically paid with food outside of Japanese cuisine. Examples (Charcuterie & cheese board, SEAcuterie boards like tin fish, sandwiches, tacos, hotdog bar, etc. People can sign up via google forms link when I open dates, and can be added onto the email list. I typically email invitations a day or two early before posting to social media. No cost to “be a member”, prices typically range from $75-85, depending on the sake selection and food served. This current event is something a little different. It will be a rooftop social with a smaller but more premium selection of sake. This selection is very spring forward and focuses on Namazume (single pasteurized) and nama (unpasteurized) sakes that are typically released early in the spring.”
Tickets to the May 6th rooftop event are $80 a pop and can be purchased on Eventbrite.
