10 Awesome Things You Gotta’ Do in October
October is already underway and as fall rolls in the festivals and seasonal activities start to pick up. This month there are tons of things going on but we hand selected 10 awesome things you gotta’ do in October. Everything from outdoor festivals, to pizza tossing classes, to haunted attractions are here. Check it out!
Philly Night Market in Chinatown
Oct. 2nd | 10th & Race Street | 7-11 pm | Free
Philly Night Market is an outdoor street festivals that occur about four times during the year. The festival which occurs in the evening from 7 pm – 11 pm includes food, music, activities. The food is primarily provided by many of the popular Philly food trucks and local restaurants.
Bacon & Beer Fest
Oct. 4th | Nick’s Roast Beef in Old City | 4-8 pm | Free
Bacon lovers, rejoice! Bacon and Beer Festival is back with new bacon-centric dishes, early fall beer releases and exciting surprises. The special menu will include the Bloody Mary Ground Bacon Burger, Bacon Nachos, Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, Warm Bacon Salad, Bacon Crusted Cheesecake, Pumpkin Bacon Chocolate Brownies and more. Admission is free, 21 and up to drink.
Midtown Festival/Bru Open-Air Party
Oct. 4th | 13th & Chestnut | 12- 8 pm | Free
BRU along with Midtown Village will present eight hours of food, drink and music outside on the 1300 block of Chestnut Street. Look for Bratwurst and Knackwurst on the grill, plus pulled pork sandwiches from a whole pig roast. Bartenders will pour our favorite local brews.
Chestnut Hill Fall For The Arts Festival
Oct. 5th | Chestnut Hill Visitor’s Center | 11am – 5 pm | Free
Chestnut Hill welcomes autumn with the Chestnut Hill Fall for the Arts Festival, a day of art, music, great food, boutique shopping and family fun. Germantown Avenue—the historic boulevard that connects the neighborhoods of northwest Philadelphia with the rest of the city—is transformed into a festive outdoor arts and crafts marketplace from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Ultimate At-Home ‘Zas with Pizza Brain

Registration Required. Pizza Brain comes to the Greensgrow Community kitchen to show you the basics of dough making at home. In this primer class you’ll get a glimpse into the brain of Pizza Brain! You’ll learn about dough essentials, stretching and tossing. Well touch on how to make your own mozzarella and the basics of simple pizza sauces. Everyone will get a ball of dough to take home and experiment with. Stop by our farmstand after to pick up seasonal toppings for your pie!
Bloktoberfest
Oct. 11th | 18th & South St. | 12-8 pm | Free
Bloktoberfest will once again showcase a wide selection of beer by craft breweries from around the country, food from neighborhood vendors and food trucks, and multiple stages of live music featuring nationally recognized and emerging local acts. The event is not for profit, with beer proceeds directed back into a variety of neighborhood initiatives addressing education, green space and public safety.
Science After Hours Presents: Monster Mash-Up

Halloween Hikes and Hayrides

oin us for one of the our longest-running traditions! Take a magical walk through woods aglow with jack-o-lanterns, where you’ll meet friendly talking animals eager to share their nocturnal ways. Enjoy a hayride along a woodland road, a campfire, s’mores, and pumpkin painting too. Don’t miss this unique family favorite. Pre-registration required.
Terror Behind the Walls
Runs until Nov. 8th | Eastern State Penitentiary | $13-$45
We do our absolute best to terrify you and your friends. Just imagine being inside an 11-acre abandoned prison at night. This is the nation’s premier haunted attraction, head and shoulders above the hayrides and haunted houses out there. Our goal is to make you scared. Really scared. And yes, it’s possible that someone (or something?) might be lurking inside one of those empty, dark cells you keep walking past….Each year, Terror Behind the Walls is a little bit bigger and a little bit better, with new effects, new costumes and makeup, and updated and expanded attractions.
Ghost Tales and Goosebumps: Local Legends By Firelight
Oct. 30th | Laurel Hill Cemetery | 7 pm | $20
This Mischief Night, Laurel Hill Cemetery is host to the region’s classic ghost tales and creepy legends. Featuring The Not Ready for After-Life players as storytellers of these otherworldly tales, tours will depart every half hour through the stones and mausoleums of Laurel Hill. By candlelight, firelight, and lantern, storytellers will regale you with tales sure to set your bones shivering. Afterwards, slow your slow heart rate with hot cider and cookies. Enjoy an appropriately Victorian macabre introduction by Sussurus Din, author of Gloomy Presentiments of Things to Come and You Think Us Mad, Don’t You?. Bring your own flashlights.
