Okay classical music fans, if you’re looking for a unique way to celebrate the Lunar New Year, here’s an experience to check out. The Philadelphia Orchestra is inviting everyone to Verizon hall (300 S. Broad St.) on Friday January 12th at pm for a Lunar New Year performance. Guests will step into the enchanting world of music as special guest conductor Long Yu leads the Lunar New Year celebration like no other.

As the Year of the Dragon is ushered in, the stage will come alive “with the vibrant colors and rich sounds of a program carefully curated to resonate with the spirit of renewal and auspicious beginnings,” the orchestra states.

Program highlights Include:

  • Fantasy on Bizet’s Carmen, for violin and orchestra: A fiery exploration of Bizet’s opera Carmen, as the strings dance to the beat of the Lunar New Year, awakening the dragon within.
  • Er Huang, for piano and orchestra: Haochen Zhang’s virtuosity on the piano takes us on a journey through time and tradition, bridging the old and the new in a symphony of renewal.
  • Spring Festival Overture, for flute duo and orchestra: The delicate sounds of flutes, symbolizing the gentle breeze of spring, join the Orchestra in a joyous overture, heralding the arrival of the Lunar New Year.
  • Jasmine Flower: The timeless beauty of the traditional Chinese folksong Jasmine Flower resonates with the universal themes of love and hope, connecting hearts across cultures as we embrace the dragon’s benevolent spirit.
