From Made in America to Roots Picnic, JAŸ-Z is set to headline Roots Picnic 2026, taking the stage alongside The Roots for a historic performance at Belmont Plateau on May 30.
The announcement marks a major return for the hip-hop icon, who has not performed live in nearly a year—and it will also be his first full performance with The Roots in over a decade.
A Historic Moment for Roots Picnic
This year’s Roots Picnic is already shaping up to be one of the most significant editions in the festival’s history. Not only is the event moving to the scenic Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park, but it will now feature one of the most influential artists in music headlining opening night.
JAŸ-Z’s appearance also aligns with the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt—a milestone that recently inspired the updated styling of his name.
Festival organizers are calling this moment a long time coming.
“Moving the Roots Picnic to Belmont Plateau and bringing JAŸ-Z and The Roots together to perform are both bucket-list moments for us,” said Shawn Gee, manager of The Roots and president of Live Nation Urban. “After meeting with Mayor Cherelle Parker and hearing her vision for Philadelphia 250, she truly inspired us to dream even bigger.”
JAŸ-Z’s Roots Picnic appearance will mark his first live performance since June 2025, when he made a surprise appearance alongside Beyoncé during the final international stop of her Cowboy Carter tour in Paris. During that performance, he joined her on stage for hits like Crazy in Love, N—s in Paris, and Drunk in Love.
Prior to that, his last festival appearance dates back to 2019, when he made a surprise guest appearance at Pharrell Williams’ Something in the Water festival in Virginia Beach.
Now, he returns to the stage in a major way—this time as a headliner in Philadelphia.
Taking place May 30–31, 2026, Roots Picnic continues to evolve while staying rooted in Philadelphia’s music and cultural identity. Curated by The Roots, the festival has built a reputation for blending hip-hop, R&B, soul, and cultural experiences into one of the city’s most anticipated annual events.
The move to Belmont Plateau adds a new layer to the experience, offering sweeping skyline views and a larger footprint for fans attending the two-day festival.
Presale tickets are available now, with general on-sale beginning March 18 at 10 a.m. ET. Additional lineup announcements for the rest of the festival are expected soon.
With JAŸ-Z and The Roots already confirmed, anticipation is building for what could be one of the most memorable Roots Picnic lineups to date.
Between the new location, the return of Roots Picnic, and the rare appearance from JAŸ-Z, this year’s festival is shaping up to be more than just a concert—it’s a moment.
As Philadelphia gears up for the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, Roots Picnic 2026 is set to play a major role in showcasing the city’s influence on music and culture.
And with JAŸ-Z and The Roots sharing the stage once again, all eyes will be on Belmont Plateau this May.
