5th Annual Mt. Airy Porchfest Set for September, Featuring Tons of Live Performances on Neighborhood Porches
Mt. Airy Porchfest will hold its fifth annual event on Saturday, September 19, from 1 to 7 p.m. The free, volunteer-led music festival features musical performances staged on residents’ porches throughout the neighborhood, with attendees walking the area to experience the acts.
Mt. Airy Porchfest is part of a broader Porchfest movement, which includes more than 125 similar events held across North America.
Organizers describe the event as welcoming to all genres, skill levels and types of musical acts, provided performances remain appropriate for a general audience. Amplified performers are asked to keep volume levels low out of consideration for other musicians and nearby residents.
The event is entirely free, and no admission or performance fees are charged. Musicians may set out a tip jar if they choose. Organizers note that all costs associated with running the event, including flyers, posters, shirts and the festival website, are covered personally by the organizers, and donations are welcomed to help offset those expenses.
Residents interested in hosting a performance need a space in front of their home that can safely accommodate musicians, along with space near the sidewalk for an audience, without blocking the street or creating safety concerns. All hosts must register in advance so their location can be included on the event map and their musical act can be promoted.
