The Franklin Institute Is Throwing a Block Party With DJs and an Array of Live Science Shows
Summer officially arrives in Philadelphia on Saturday, June 20, and The Franklin Institute is marking the occasion in style.
The TFI Block Party: A Summer Celebration runs from 11 AM to 3 PM, and the party starts before you even walk through the door.
Step outside and the festivities are already in full swing. The Stoop Dance Party featuring DJ Ben Arsenal turns the iconic front steps into a full-on summer dance floor — no ticket needed, just show up and move.
Also out front, the Philadelphia Union brings Soccer Science to the street, where visitors can explore the physics of force, motion, friction, and reaction time through hands-on soccer activities. Every kick, pass, and goal? Live STEM in action.
And with June 20 falling on the eve of the Summer Solstice, there’s no better day for Solar Viewing. Grab a spot at the telescope for a safe, guided look at the star powering Philadelphia’s longest day of sunlight.
The experience runs deeper once you’re inside. NBC10 meteorologist Justin Gozdzicki takes the stage for a live Weather Science Show that breaks down exactly what goes into making a storm — interactive, engaging, and genuinely fascinating for all ages.
Then there’s the Soap Bubble Monster — an explosive, sudsy science demonstration followed by open bubble play. Giant foam, giant fun, and real science behind every bubble.
PNC Grow Up Great Activities, presented by PNC Bank, round out the indoor programming for younger visitors, and if you’re shopping on your way out, wear any Philadelphia Union merch to score 10% off select items at the SciStore.
All ticketed programming is included with General Admission. Rain or shine, the block party goes on.
