The Eagles Enlisted the Help of Local Up-And-Coming Artists To Create Amazing Gameday Posters!

If you’ve been following the Philadelphia Eagles IG account you may have noticed some sick art come gameday.  What you may not know however is that those gameday posters were created by local artists in Philly! The Gameday Poster Series commissions eight local artists from various backgrounds and styles to create memorable and eye-catching posters for each Eagles home game.

Now in its second year the Gameday Poster Series originally started four years ago with artist Kevin Lofton handling posters for every Eagles game.  Although the posters were some of the top preforming posts on their social channels, the Eagles wanted to create more inclusion and diversity, not only with the art but with artists.  Eagles Creative Director Sean Flanagan chimed in by stating “There is a ton of great talented artists in our own backyard. Let’s give them an opportunity and a platform to showcase their diverse styles and voices. The goal was to tap cartoonists, street artists, painters, illustrators, etc. to really diversify the styles. It was also important that gender and ethnic diversity is present as well.”

From this the current Gameday Poster Series was born. When it was first launched last year, the Eagles gave away 250 posters at home games and provided a booth for artists to personally sign posters for fans. Obviously now with the pandemic this isn’t possible but the initiative was still pushed forward to provide a platform for local artists to showcase their work and the response remains overwhelming. This year the Eagles made it a point to seek up-and-coming artist by commissioning recent 2020 graduates.  I mean what better way to boost your portfolio than to have your art work blasted to over 5 million followers?

The selection process was similar to building a playlist. Artists were chosen according to their styles and signature art.  For example the Eagles needed a Halloween-themed gameday poster and enlisted the help of local artist Kelly Migliori who specializes in monster and horror themed art so it was a perfect fit.  Each artist has their own vibe to contribute to this visual art playlist.

The artists and the Eagles team typically meet around June and assign gameday posters to each of the eight artists with instructions on which player they should focus on while last year’s featured artist Chris Murray handles all away game posters.  From here the Eagles stepped back and let the artists flourish in their creativity and voila!

The Gameday Poster Series will be something that the Eagles will continue for the foreseeable future and with the thriving arts community here in the city the pool of talent seems to be limitless. Philly is known for its passionate sports fans and thriving arts community so this series seems to be the perfect marriage of both worlds.
