Mt. Airy Porchfest Returns With Free Music Across More Than 40 Porches
The porches of Mt. Airy will once again transform into stages this fall as the neighborhood celebrates the fourth annual Mt. Airy Porchfest on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 1 to 7 p.m. The entirely volunteer-led festival invites residents and visitors alike to stroll the community and enjoy an afternoon of live music across a variety of genres.
Porchfest is part of a growing movement, with more than 125 similar events taking place across North America. What makes Mt. Airy’s version unique is its grassroots spirit: neighbors open up their porches, stoops, and front yards to host performers, creating a relaxed, walkable festival atmosphere.
Organizers emphasize inclusivity and creativity. Performers of all genres, styles, and skill levels are welcome, with the only request being that amplified acts keep volume low out of respect for nearby performers — and napping babies.
Porchfest is completely free to attend and to perform in. Musicians are welcome to set out tip jars, and community members can support the event through donations, which help cover the cost of flyers, posters, shirts, and the event website.
From folk and jazz to rock, funk, and experimental sounds, Porchfest aims to offer something for everyone. With dozens of porches hosting performances throughout the afternoon, festivalgoers can wander at their own pace, discovering new music and connecting with neighbors along the way.
Now in its fourth year, Mt. Airy Porchfest continues to grow as a neighborhood tradition — one that celebrates the power of music to bring people together in unexpected, joyful ways.
