Last Call: After Nearly 12 Years, Old City’s J.J. Bootleggers Announces It Is Closing Its Doors
Another chapter in Philly’s nightlife scene is coming to a close. In a recent Instagram post, Old City mainstay J.J. Bootleggers announced it will be closing its doors for good on August 23, marking the end of an era for one of the neighborhood’s go-to party spots.
“One last call before we turn the page After nearly 12 years, JJ Bootleggers will be closing its doors on August 23rd,” the bar wrote. “Thank you for all of the amazing memories that we will cherish forever ⚡️.”
For over a decade, J.J. Bootleggers was a fixture in Old City’s late-night circuit, drawing crowds for its lively atmosphere, themed parties, and reputation as a reliable place to keep the night going. But its closure reflects a broader shift in the neighborhood.
Old City, once known for its dense lineup of clubs and bars, has seen many of its nightlife venues replaced by restaurants and dining-focused concepts over the past several years. The transformation has gradually reshaped the area from a high-energy club district into more of a culinary destination.
With J.J. Bootleggers joining the growing list of shuttered venues, longtime patrons and partygoers are left with fewer options for late-night dancing and drinks in Old City.
