The Philadelphia Union are Hosting a Free Soccer Clinic in Chinatown

If you have a kid or know of youth ages 5-14, The Philadelphia Union is hosting a free soccer clinic this week. The Union soccer clinic will take place Thursday June 8th at the Crane Center from 4- 5 pm (1001 Vine St.).

“This collaboration came about when the Philadelphia Union had reached out to our non-profit about partnering on an initiative for AAPI Heritage Month. As an organization, we strive to create more opportunities for the AAPI community and other communities of color here in Philadelphia. Opportunities to come together, inspire one another, and to build a stronger community – starting with our youth,” states Philly Solidarity which strives to empower diverse voices.

Philly Solidarity, instinctively proposed that the youth soccer clinic he hosted in a predominately Asian neighborhood in Philadelphia. “We reached out to our friends at PCDC (Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation) to host the event in their gymnasium at the Crane Center. This will be the first soccer program to ever be held at the center. As a kid, to have a professional sports team come to your neighborhood to host a clinic, that can be life changing. We are living in such challenging times and so it’s crucial that our youth and their families feel seen, heard and supported. While this clinic will be hosted in Chinatown, this is not meant to just serve AAPI youth but rather we want all interested youth to be able to join us as well,” Philly Solidarity adds.

According to Philly Solidarity, AAPI organizations have always been historically underfunded. AAPIP reported that only .2% of philanthropic dollars in the US have gone to organizations that serve AAPI communities. “With statistics like that our work is so critical. Our goal as an organization is to continue to serve the AAPI community while building solidarity across all historically marginalized groups,” states Philly Solidarity.
