To the outside world Philly is known primarily for a handful of things.  The history, the sports, the cheesesteaks & the music.  From hip hop legends such as The Roots Crew to R&B pioneers such as Gamble & Huff, Philly has always had a major influence in music.  Although Philadelphia is an artist driven town, it’s not a music business town.  Rappers and singers a like have been flying the coup to places such as New York, Atlanta, and L.A in hopes of living out their dreams. However, what does an A&R really look for in an artist? How about what it takes to be a success music executive?  Well The Drop Night Show host Shaun Beastley who himself has seen success as a manager, sat down with one of music’s top A&Rs to see what it really takes to make it.

Shawn Barron who hails from Buffalo New York actually had aspirations of becoming a chef but after finding himself bring artists to record companies, he soon learned that his destiny wasn’t to cook up burgers but rather beats.  Currently the VP of A&R at Atlantic Records, Shawn was the man responsible for the singing of Ty Dolla $ign and several other notable names.  So it’s safe to say he knows a thing or two in regards to scouting talent.
