Root 2 Fruit is Taking Over Cira Green for a Day of Art, Fitness, Wellness, and Community Connection

Root 2 Fruit, Philadelphia’s free creative wellness festival, will return on Saturday, September 13, from 12 to 5 p.m. at Cira Green at Sunset Social, 129 South 30th Street, in University City. Organized by Forbidden Fruit, the event combines art, wellness, and community connection in an open, family-friendly atmosphere.

Following its 2024 debut, which drew more than 300 participants, this year’s festival is expected to welcome over 500 attendees and showcase contributions from 150+ artists across disciplines. The new location at Cira Green provides additional space while keeping the community-focused environment central to the event’s mission.

“Moving to Cira Green allows us to expand our vision while maintaining the community-centered atmosphere that makes Root 2 Fruit special,” said Tyra “Crux” Jones-Blain, Co-Founder of Forbidden Fruit.

Activities and Highlights

Festivalgoers can expect a variety of wellness and creative activities, including:

  • Yoga sessions led by Three Queens Yoga

  • Relaxation Station hosted by The Phoenix

  • Art galleries and live performances featuring local talent

  • Healthy refreshments, such as free smoothies from Blkberry Juice Bar and fresh fruit provided by Mariposa Food Co-Op

  • Local vendors co-curated by Forbidden Fruit and Melody Market

Workshops and performances are designed to be accessible for all ages, reflecting the festival’s emphasis on inclusivity and collective well-being.

Last year’s attendees described the event as both healing and affirming. “Healing can look like a lot of things,” said Chelsa Clofer, a West Philadelphia-based dance and talk therapist. “It’s community-based. Do this in your community, with your community. You’re not alone, we all need it.”

Root 2 Fruit is supported by a range of local partners, including Philadelphia Cultural Fund, Urban Art Gallery, Three Queens Yoga, Melanated Women’s Health, and Mariposa Food Co-Op.
