Halloween Nights Returns to Eastern State Penitentiary With the All-New Dark Tides Haunted House and Apocalypse Pass Scare Zone
Spooky season is right around the corner and one of Philly’s most anticipated seasonal events is back. Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary returns this fall, running on select nights from September 19 through November 8, 2025, with an expanded lineup of haunted houses, scare zones, and immersive experiences inside the historic, abandoned prison.
Halloween Nights transforms the 10-acre penitentiary into a multi-attraction Halloween festival. The event features five haunted houses, historic tours, themed bars and lounges, live performances, and food and beverage options. More than 200 performers bring the experience to life each night with professional makeup, costumes, sets, and soundscapes.
Proceeds from Halloween Nights support Eastern State Penitentiary’s mission to preserve the site and advance public understanding of the U.S. criminal justice system.
This year introduces Dark Tides, a new haunted house set in an abandoned fishing village where a sinister secret lurks beneath the docks. Visitors will also encounter Apocalypse Pass, a scare zone where containment has failed and the outbreak of flesh-eaters spreads.
Alongside these additions, the event features new local food and beverage vendors, and an updated event flow designed to maximize intensity and streamline navigation. Guests can move through all main attractions while still exploring the penitentiary’s historic spaces at their own pace.
