Philly’s Historic District will turn into an open-air cultural hub as MuseumFest: Historic District Philly returns on May 23, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Powered by the American Alliance of Museums, the event invites visitors to explore five of the city’s most iconic institutions—for free—through a walkable half-mile loop packed with performances, hands-on activities, and living history moments.

MuseumFest brings together some of Philadelphia’s most significant cultural sites, including:

  • National Constitution Center
  • African American Museum in Philadelphia
  • Betsy Ross House
  • Carpenters’ Hall
  • Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History

Each location will host its own programming, creating a dynamic, choose-your-own-adventure experience throughout the afternoon.

Guests can drop in at any point between 1 and 5 p.m. to enjoy a rotating schedule of activities, including:

  • Chocolate-making demos at the Betsy Ross House (2:00, 2:45, 3:30 p.m.), showcasing Revolutionary-era techniques—with samples included
  • Live storytelling at the Weitzman Museum, where Eva Baen shares her immigrant journey
  • 18th-century lawn games at the National Constitution Center, featuring classic activities like hoop and stick
  • Afrofuturism panel at the African American Museum in Philadelphia (4:00–4:45 p.m.), exploring costume design, culture, and storytelling
  • Family activity tables at Carpenters’ Hall, including LEGO builds and coloring stations

Pop-up performances, surprise activations, and interactive moments will be happening throughout the district all afternoon.

Visitors can participate in a passport challenge, collecting stamps at each museum along the route—adding a fun, interactive layer to the experience.

Best of all, admission to all participating museums is completely free, making it an accessible way to explore the city’s rich history and cultural institutions.
