Center City District Launches Weekday Edition of Open Streets in Midtown Village This June

Center City District is bringing a new twist to one of Philadelphia’s most popular seasonal programs with the launch of a weekday edition of Open Streets in Midtown Village this summer.

Beginning Tuesday, June 2 through Tuesday, June 30, Open Streets: Midtown Village will transform several blocks of the neighborhood into a pedestrian-only destination every Tuesday evening from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The new pilot program is designed to give Center City workers, residents, and visitors a car-free way to enjoy one of Philadelphia’s busiest dining and nightlife corridors during the summer months.

The event will temporarily close:

  • 13th Street from Chestnut to Walnut
  • Sansom Street from 12th to Juniper
  • Drury Street

Street closures will begin at 2 p.m. and remain in place until 10 p.m. each Tuesday.

Unlike previous Open Streets events that focused on weekends, this version is centered around the after-work crowd—encouraging people to stay in Center City for happy hour, dinner, and evening entertainment.

“We’re excited to pilot the first Open Streets evening edition in Midtown Village,” said CCD President and CEO Prema Katari Gupta. “Hosting it during the week provides the bustling neighborhood with a break from car traffic and gives our restaurateurs extra space during happy hour and dinner times.”

The pedestrian-only setup will create expanded public space for:

  • Outdoor dining
  • Sidewalk retail
  • Live performances
  • Community activities

Restaurants and businesses along the route may also offer:

  • Happy hour specials
  • In-store activations
  • Entertainment and exclusive promotions

Visitors can expect ambient music, local artists, and performances from Philly Girls Jump, known for their Double Dutch showcases.

CCD will also add extra seating and interactive activities, including:

  • Ping-pong
  • Miniature golf
  • Public gathering spaces
