MergeArts: The Merge Recap
Last night the worlds of art, fashion, and music collided at Lit Ultra on N. 2nd St. Attendees where treated to an array of art, live performances from local musical acts, and a fashion show.
Lit was the perfect venue to pull off such an eclectic show. From a full length runway to a nice size stage and display area, both attendees and artists enjoyed a venue that not only flowed but prominently showcased the sights and sounds of the arts. Frederick Calalang is no stranger to these shows. As the Director for MergeArts, the organization that put this all together, Fred is now 4 years into what he calls “The Merge.”
Local artists ranged from canvas painting, to chalk drawings and pretty much everything in between. While musical acts ranged from rock to classic hip-hop thanks to Philly legend Schoolly D. Schoolly also contributed to the art show by showcasing a few of his own paintings. As for the fashion show, it was a hit as well. The highlight was definitely hair stylist Tony Crush’s show fashion/hair show. Spectators were treated to a live cut and style on the runaway as Tony Crush cut and colored each model in under 5 minutes before our eyes.
Overall, The Merge was definitely a treat. The best part is the fact that this was just the “preview show,” as Fred looks to finalize the details for the upcoming full on Merge show.
Here are just some of the sights from last night’s show. Enjoy!
