Looks Like the Delaware River Waterfront Will Finally Get a Boardwalk
Yesterday city officials made a motion to acquire a stretch of the Delaware River with plans to transform it into a 3.3 mile bike and walking trail.
Moving to posses the riverfront strip through condemnation (essentially eminent domain), The Philadelphia City Planning Commission voted in favor of the move, making it close to a reality.
City officials are moving to acquire property along the Delaware River – through condemnation if necessary – for part of a planned 3.3-mile waterfront bike and walking trail. Comperable to the bike and walking trail along the Schuylkill River, the Delaware River trail will run from SugarHouse casino to the land behind the Henry Stewart Co. wire rope business. The only thing stopping the trail from coming into fruition is City Council who will be voting on move soon.
We will keep you updated as this story progresses but it’s looking like this is a very strong possibility.
