The word spread like wild fire regarding the Franklin Institute’s flagship adult affair Science After Hours. However, another local museum is not to be outdone. The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology or Penn Museum for short, has been quietly putting together an adult only event of their own.
Dubbed P.M @ Penn Museum, the series kicked off this past November with the Drink With the Sphinx event. Guests were able to sip on cocktails while checking out ancient artifacts, enter a belly dancing workshop, and take a flashlight tour of the museum.
This month the Penn Museum is upping the ante and making things a little steamy around Valentine’s Day. On February 18th from 6-9:30 pm, the 2nd installment of P.M @ Penn Museum presents R-Rated Romans. Guests will be treated to an “exploration of sexuality in the Roman world.” So what does that exactly entail? Well for starters you’ll learn about lusty customs of civilization in antiquity. The curator in charge, Dr. C. Brian Rose will discuss just how similar the ancient Roman’s view on sex is very similar to modern times.
After the lecture guests will be treated to a live burlesque show by Philadelphia’s own The Whiskey Kittens Cabaret. Just as things start to heat up, visitors will then be taken on a guided tour of provocative objects on display at the museum’s World’s Intertwined: Etruscans, Greeks, & Romans gallery suite. Here you’ll find over 1,ooo ancient objects associated with nudity and physical pleasure. Boy were those Romans naughty.
For a cool interactive experience there will also be a make-your-own perfume station, an artifact cart, interactive lesson on military helmets and photo station. Oh yea and if it wasn’t mentioned before there will be a cash bar serving up Beer, Wine, and mixed drinks. Admission is $20 ($15 for members) and includes 1 free drink ticket. This event is 21+ so proper ID is a must. You can purchase tickets to this awesome event here.
