City Council Approved Legislation That Will Ban Restaurant Evictions for 6 Months!
Since the beginning of the pandemic last March we had to be the bearer of bad news in regards to restaurant closings on many occasions. However, it looks like there may be hope for many local restaurants struggling to stay afloat. In the fight to help small businesses in Philly, City Council voted unanimously on a piece of legislation that will ban evictions for non-chain restaurants for the next 180 days.
This moratorium will apply to local small businesses with less than 100 employees and have experienced 50% or more loss in revenue. In addition to stopping eviction notices, the legislation also puts a halt to all late fees associated to rent.
City Council hopes that this measure will assist in helping local restaurants get through the winter months since they have been forced to operate outdoors or takeout. This bill still has to hit Mayor Jim Kenney’s desk but is expected to be signed.
