New Mural to Honor Phillie Greats to be Unveiled This Fall
Although it may seem like this mural is about a decade late, the Phillies have commissioned a mural to honor 30 Phillie greats which will include among others Tug McGraw, Brad Lidge, Mike Schmidt, Robin Roberts, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Jim Bunning, Steve Carlton, Ed Delahanty, Chuck Kleinbroadcaster, Richie Ashburn, Mitch Williams, Cole Hamels, Roy Halladay, Larry Bowa, Jimmy Rollins, Darren Daulton, Carlos Ruiz, Dick Allen, Tony Taylor, Chase Utley, Greg Luzinski. and broadcaster Harry Kallas.
Pretty much every Phillie that has made noise while adorning the Phillie uniform will be displayed on the 3,750 sq. ft. mural. The mural itself will be produced by award winning artist David McShane of the The Mural Arts Program and will be displayed on the 24th & Chestnut St. building facing the Schuylkill River and I-76 Schuylkill Expressway. If McShane’s name doesn’t ring a bell I am sure you’ve seen some of his work around town including the Jackie Robinson tribute in North Philly as well as the Philadelphia Stars Negro League tribute in West Philadelphia.
Phillie fans will finally get a mural to call their own in a city that boasts the most art murals in the country. There is no specific date on when the mural will be unveiled this fall but officials within the Phillie organization stated that there will be a public dedication where some Phillie greats will be in attendance. We will keep you updated as soon as we hear more.
