Who’s Down for Thanksgiving Arepas From Puyero Venezuelan Flavor?
Puyero Venezuelan Flavor (524 S 4th St) is giving thanks for the opportunity to fill their Venezuelan arepas with tons of tasty leftovers! Puyero owners Gil and Simon Arends and Gil’s wife Manuela Villasmil give thanks to the American custom of Thanksgiving by cooking up Thanksgiving turkey and gravy and creating their own new tradition for Venezulans and customers living in the US.
While back in Venezuala they don’t celebrate the holiday, here in the United Stated many Venezualans do celebrate Thanksgiving with their friends and family. Puyero‘s Thanksgiving Left-Overs bring together the best of both worlds – and let Gil, Simon and Manuela do what they do best – offer even more arepas to South Street and Philadelphia!
Puyero‘s Thanksgiving Left-Overs with Thanksgiving inspired Venezuelan dishes start this week and runs through Thanksgiving Weekend until Sunday, November 26, 2017. This includes a sweet potato arepa stuffed with turkey, gravy and brussels sprouts, plus the cachapas made with sweet corn which goes perfectly with turkey and gravy. Puyero will also debut mini chocolate arepas with apple, cinnamon and whipped cream.
“It’s the perfect occasion to mix a bit of both cultures,” said Simon. “Venezuelan food is very flexible. It allows us to play with our food style and Thanksgiving flavors,” said Gil. Manuela added, “In our home we don’t eat the Thanksgiving leftover sandwich, we eat the Thanksgiving leftover arepa. I’m sure most of the Venezuelan households in the US do the same.”
During Thanksgiving Left-overs Puyero will also introduce a winter warm-up with Andino-style hot chocolate – which will be available all winter.
Menu:
Gobble-Gobble Arepa – Sweet potato stuffed with turkey and gravy, brussel sprouts, and side of cranberry sauce
Turkey Day Cachapa – Sweet corn pancake with turkey and gravy, mozzarella and a side of cranberry sauce
Thanksgiving Chocolate Arepas – 3 chocolate mini arepa stuffed with apple and cinnamon topped with whip cream

Pueryo will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and re-open on Black Friday at 5:00pm. Puyero will be open regular hours all other days around Thanksgiving.
