With the plethora of bars, lounges, and nightlife venues in the city there is always something going on.  Whether it’s a quizo night, stand up, or a poetry slam there is no shortage of places to have a great time.  Being that Philly is such a musically inclined city we thought it would be a great idea to list the Top 10 Open Mic Nights in Philadelphia that cater to music.  What better way to spend a weekday night than to listen to the sounds of up-and-coming and talented individuals.  On a date, with friends, or flying solo open mic nights are always great entertainment.  Everything from soul to jazz to rock can be heard right here in your back yard for little to no charge. So whatever your musical preference is or what area of the city you reside, there’s an open mic night with your name on it.

The Legendary Dobbs

When it comes to rock n’ roll, there’s no other place you need to be then The Legendary Dobbs.  Established in 1974 this spot has become one of Philly’s meccas for rock music.  Legendary acts such as Bo Diddley, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, Rage Against The Machine, and Tool have all graced the stage here.  So when you hit an open mic at this place you may never know if you’ve witnessed a mega star in the making.  A great venue for casual dates or linking up with friends, The Legendary Dobbs is where stars come to shine.

It goes without saying that The Grape Room is a Manayunk staple.  A great place to catch live shows of indie and established bands from all over the country.  This cozy yet great sounding venue is the ideal place to catch live acts, so it comes as no surprise that this spot lands on our list when it comes to music.  However, for a real genuine Philly feel, Mondays at The Grape Room is the perfect time to catch local talent perform with the great acoustic this venue provides.  Located just off the strip on Main street, The Grape Room’s open mic is perfect for a date night since there are plenty of awesome eateries within walking distance and Main St. is always lively.

This place already made our list of the top 5 live music spots in the city but it would be an injustice to leave them off this list as well.  Located in heart of Center City, Time is a jazz haven.  Everything about this place is relaxing.  From the decor, to the ambiance, to the intimate music area.  There is no stage here so bands play right along side dining tables giving it a cool, warm vibe.  Their open mic nights bring out some of the best local jazz acts in the city.  You will be not disappointed with unpolished acts here as most acts on open mic are pretty established with albums ready to be purchased.  This is the perfect spot for a date as the food and drinks are great here.

 

Connie’s Ric Rac

“This is not a bar with a stage, it’s a music venue that serves drinks,” as Connie’s would like everyone to know.  This place revolves around music and takes it serious so you know their open mics are talent driven.  Those looking for great rock, alternative, and other eclectic sounds will definitely love this place.  Although they don’t categorize themselves as a bar this place has a great beer selection and the vibe is that of a classic dive bar. So no frills here just great music and great drinks.  Perfect spot for friends to get together and enjoy great music.

Although Warmdaddy’s boasts a southern theme complete with the decor, it is very much Philadelphia.  You would be hard-pressed to find someone in the 215 that has never heard of this joint. Known for its jazz, soul, funk, and sultry sounds, Warmdaddy’s is where the cool cats go to hang their hat and enjoy awesome food and great music.  Perfect spot for a date as well as a get-together with friends.  The venue is clean and inviting so if dive bars aren’t your scene and you want to step out in a pressed shirt and hard bottoms, this is your kind of place.
