When it comes to feeding those in need, Broad Street Ministry has stepped up in the City of Brotherly love in a huge way. Since forming in 2005, Broad Street Ministry has grown and now welcomes more than 400 individuals each weekday for healthful meals, community, and stabilizing services that reduce the trauma of scarcity and poverty. In an effort to raise funds and keep this mission going strong, @winkelphilly has organized a benefit dinner dubbed “Winkel at Night.”

Taking place on Monday March 18th, Winkel at Night will feature delicious food prepared by renowned chefs, including @nethernoord of @dankbaarphilly, Winkel’s own Chef Paulie, and BSM’s esteemed Culinary Director, Chef Jess Barnes (@quakingjess). Chef Barnes will showcase their talents with a Kale Salad with Mandarin Orange and Pistachio Pesto Dressing, and his signature Country Fried Portobello Mushroom dish. These dishes are sure to delight guests and highlight the culinary expertise we have at Broad Street Ministry.

So how did these chefs come together? Well, “we were introduced to JonCarl by a mutual friend and he immediately asked how he could help feed people in need. He was our very first chef for our Kitchen Takeover series and has been supportive of our mission since. He came to us with the idea of opening Winkel for dinner service in a series that benefits Philly nonprofits,” states Broad Street Ministry’s Director of Development, Larry Downey.

This dinner marks the second in a series of evening dinners at Winkel which is usually a brunch spot. The previous beneficiary was Sunday Love. Tickets can be purchased at winkelphilly.square.site and are $65 per person (plus tax & tip), with proceeds benefiting the incredible work of Broad Street Ministry. The evening will kick off at 6 PM with passed hors d’oeuvres, followed by a multi-course dinner with options like Pork Loin, Kip Kerrie, and Pan-Roasted Salmon, plus a Deep-fried Wild Blueberry Bread Pudding dessert. Each course will interlude with conversation from BSM staff sharing about their resources and services.

“Broad Street Ministry (BSM) is honored to be the beneficiary of this special evening dinner series at Winkel. Our very own Culinary Director, Jess Barnes (@quackingjess) will be preparing a few of the dishes served, highlighting the quality of food offered to BSM guests. BSM is committed to being a community resource, not only for our neighbors experiencing homelessness, but also those who want to know how they can help be part of the solution,” Larry adds.
