The 3 Day Anime Festival “Philly Otaku Con” is Coming Featuring 50+ Vendors, Games, Pokemon Tournaments and More

There’s no denying the anime loyal following.  So matter what your favorite anime is or favorite character, a special convention is coming to celebrate all things anime. The three day long Philly Otaku Con is coming to Philly April 14-16th at Cherry Street Pier and admission is free.

“Otaku is a Japanese word to describe people who love anime, gaming, comics, etc,. It’s a word that people in the community use as pride for loving the things they love,” states event organizers.  So you can expect to be immersed in cosplay and plenty of gaming going on.

Guests can expect “Gaming, both arcade and tabletop games with free play as well as demos and tournaments. We are also working on a Beyblade tournament. shopping, we have over 50 artists and dealers vending. There will be a Pokemon gym/center with games and tournaments where you can compete with a Pokemon Gym Leader (a cosplayer). There will be fandom programming on the Jumbotron as well as large-scale “panels” that will interact with he audience. as for food, there will be two food trucks each day as well as French Toast Bites and the Beer Garden,” organizers add.

In addition to the games The Blerd Bar will be hosting a live podcast conducting contests Youtuber/panelists, unlock-able content along with GeekGirlStrong engaging in interactive games and dances using the Jumbotron.

This event is the first Philly Otaku Con after organizers experienced success with smaller events. “We have been running Philly Otaku for about 5yrs starting with meetups for fandoms and cosplay photoshoots. Our first big event was Poke Pier in September 2021 at the Cherry Street Pier where we had 2500 attendees. After the success of Poke Pier and some smaller events after, we decided to just go all out with a 3-day convention,” Philly Otaku stated.
