Despite their star pitcher Mo’ne Davis not being on the mound, the Taney Dragons of Philadelphia rallied to beat the little league team out of Pearland, TX. The Dragons were down a couple of runs in the 6th inning when they began to rally. Catcher Scott Bandura was on base and later scored when Zion Spearman hit a triple to send him home. Then the next batter Tai Shanahan hit a grounder that become an infield error when the shortstop overthrew the first basemen, sending Spearman home for a 7-6 win.
The Dragons have been on a hot streak as of late and have been dubbed “the team of destiny.” When asked about this name by a reporter, Taney Dragon outfielder responded “”I was reading something that said ‘luck is a combination of opportunity meeting preparation..so I think we prepared hard enough and we had the opportunity to get where we are.”
Their next opportunity to show the world their stuff will be this coming Wednesday August 20th at 7:30 pm when they face the Little League team out of Mountain Ridge, Las Vegas. This game will definitely garner much media attention as the pitching phenom Mo’ne Davis will take the mound. In her last outing both celebrities athletes blew up the twittersphere with praises for the righty from Philly. Now that the word is definitely out it will be interesting to see just how many people will be tuning in.
