Spring in Philadelphia isn’t complete without the return of the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival, and in 2026, the beloved celebration of Japanese culture and sakura season is back for a vibrant weekend in Fairmount Park’s Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center.

Taking place on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (both days), the festival will once again transform the Horticulture Center and surrounding grounds into a lively showcase of Japanese arts, performances, food, and cultural traditions.

Organized by the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia (JASGP) and supported by Subaru of America, the annual festival highlights the beauty of sakura (cherry blossoms)—which bloom across the city each spring—while offering an immersive cultural experience.

From traditional performances to hands-on activities, the event brings a taste of Japan to Philadelphia, welcoming thousands of visitors each year to celebrate the season.

Throughout the weekend, guests can enjoy a packed lineup of performances across the Sakura Main Stage and Tomodachi Stage.

Saturday highlights include:

  • Kyo Daiko (taiko drumming)
  • Martial arts demonstrations from Temple Karate Club and ISKF Youth Program
  • Live music and dance performances
  • Cosplay showcase by Zenkaikon
  • Karaoke sessions with DJ Mike

Sunday features:

  • Samurai fighting arts (Kobudo)
  • The official Opening Ceremony and Cherry Blossom Tree Planting
  • Performances by the Golden Crown New Year’s Brigade (Mummers)
  • Yosakoi dance, live bands, and more
  • Additional karaoke sessions and cultural showcases
  • Interactive Cultural Experiences

Beyond the stage, the festival offers a wide range of hands-on activities and demonstrations throughout the Horticulture Center grounds.

Visitors can take part in:

  • Origami workshops with Philadelphia Pholders
  • Calligraphy stations
  • Ikebana (flower arranging) demonstrations
  • Japanese table games
  • Sakura-themed face painting
  • A family-friendly scavenger hunt

Guests can also witness traditional kimono dressing demonstrations for children and adults, showcasing formal Japanese attire and cultural customs.

For a more immersive cultural experience, attendees can reserve timed tickets for traditional tea ceremonies hosted by Urasenke Philadelphia, offering a glimpse into one of Japan’s most revered traditions.

Visitors can also explore the nearby Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, with timed-entry access available throughout the weekend.

While some workshops—like ikebana classes and tea ceremonies—are sold out, free demonstrations will still take place, ensuring everyone can experience these traditions.

The festival will also feature an all-day vendor fair, where guests can browse Japanese goods, handmade items, and enjoy a variety of food offerings inspired by Japanese cuisine.

From savory bites to sweet treats, it’s the perfect way to explore flavors while taking in the sights and sounds of the festival.

Sunday will also include unique moments like the “Pretty in Pink” Pet Contest, adding a playful twist to the weekend lineup.

With activities designed for all ages, the Cherry Blossom Festival continues to be one of the city’s most family-friendly spring traditions.
