Philadelphia Film Society Launches Free Movie Days Series Featuring Philly-Themed Films, Cult Classics, and Summer Favorites

The Philadelphia Film Society is launching its new Free Movie Days series, a two-week celebration of films connected to Philadelphia and the city’s rich cultural legacy.

Presented in collaboration with the Philadelphia Film Society, the series will run from June 19 through July 3 at the Philadelphia Film Society Center, located at 1412 Chestnut Street. The eclectic lineup features everything from Academy Award-winning dramas and cult classics to sports films, music documentaries, and beloved summer blockbusters.

While admission is free, guests are encouraged to reserve tickets in advance through the Philadelphia Film Society website, as seating is limited. Reservations can be made at filmadelphia.org

Designed as part of Philadelphia’s summer celebrations, the series highlights films by and about Philadelphia while also showcasing classic Hollywood favorites and crowd-pleasing hits.

The series kicks off on Friday, June 19, with screenings of the acclaimed biographical drama Rustin, which tells the story of civil rights strategist Bayard Rustin, followed by a special 35mm screening of the Philadelphia-shot cult classic Mannequin.

The opening weekend continues with screenings of silent film masterpiece Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans and the original 1937 version of A Star Is Born, before wrapping up with Maybe This Year, the documentary chronicling the passionate journey of Philadelphia Eagles fans.

Throughout the two-week series, audiences can enjoy several films with strong ties to Philadelphia, including:

  • Creed

The schedule also features a variety of acclaimed classics and audience favorites such as Days of Heaven, The Wiz, High Noon, High Society, Footloose, Mean Girls, and Independence Day.
