Sad & Boujee is Saying Farewell For The Summer With One Last Party On The Moshulu

Philly’s popular emo night is saying farewell for the summer. What began in 2018 as an alternative to the typical top 40 format has spawned into a national series that has constantly packed out venues. Now after four events in Philly, this summer Sad & Boujee has one last night on Saturday August 27th onboard the Moshulu (401 S. Columbus Blvd.) with special guest Spencer Chamberlain.

“This isn’t your average emo-night party. We spin everything from My Chemical Romance to Cardi B and sometimes we’ll even toss in some Limp Bizkit, because, why not. Our summer residences take place once monthly on a docked boat on the Delaware called The Moshulu,” states creator Sean Salm.

In the past Sad & Boujee has featured a variety of special guests including Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens, State Champs, Waterparks, Mayday Parade, Hot Mulligan among others.

So how did this unique night come about? “I went to a Drake Night in 2018 at Fillmore and Dirty South Joe (or maybe it was one of the other DJs) dropped “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” and the crowd went absolutely nuts. I think Misery Business was also played but after an emo song or two it went back to Drake vibes for the remainder of the night – but it amazed me how receptive the crowd was. We had an Emo Nite LA residency at Voltage and when the DJs wrapped up around 1am, I would bust out Spotify and for the last hour to keep people drinking and play Cardi or 2Chainz and I just felt the energy level up. PBRs turned into shots and the crowd just became unhinged. I knew the two worlds could co-exist – I just needed a clever name and an open date on the calendar. We hosted our first Sad & Boujee here in Philly at Voltage in October 2018 and now we have residencies in different clubs across the country,” States Sean.

Although the summer season has come to an end, Sean does hint at a special October one-off, but nothing is finalized at this point. Tickets to Sad & Boujee start at $20 and can be found on Eventbrite here.
