Rittenhouse Town is Hosting Tavern Night Featuring Hearth-Cooked Food, Beer, Cocktails, Games, Storytelling & More
On March 28 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Historic Rittenhouse Town (208 Lincoln Drive) will once again transform into a lively 1770s tavern for its second annual Tavern Night fundraiser.
In the 18th century, taverns were the heart of community life — places for political gatherings, marketplace exchanges, shared meals, and spirited debate. For one immersive evening, guests will experience those simple colonial pleasures firsthand as the historic homestead becomes a bustling Revolutionary-era public house filled with storytelling, songs, games, and hearth-cooked fare. Tickets are available at rittenhousetown.org.
Meals include event admission and must be purchased online in advance. Guests can choose from:
- Vegetarian Pepper Pot – $45
- German Bratwurst Braised in Beer – $50
- Garlic Roasted Chicken – $50
- Each meal includes a choice of scalloped potatoes or roasted vegetables.
Dessert and additional drink tokens will be available for purchase at the door:
- Fire-forged griddlecakes with vanilla – $10
- Additional drink token – $10
The evening’s beverage program highlights colonial favorites, with drinks redeemed by ticket:
- Spruce Ale & Specialty Colonial Beers brewed over open fire using 18th-century methods
- Colonial Mead, the fermented honey drink beloved in early America
- Fish House Punch, the legendary rum-based bowl said to have left George Washington unable to write in his diary for days
- Ale Flip, dramatically heated with red-hot loggerheads
- Rattleskull, a spiced rum-and-beer blend
- Cherry Bounce, whiskey infused with cherries and reportedly a Washington favorite
- 18th-Century Hot Chocolate, served with or without rum
Beyond food and drink, patrons will be encouraged to learn and play classic parlor games such as whist, shut-the-box, and farkle, join in period toasts, and sing popular songs of the day. Expect laughter, camaraderie, and stories that bring the colonial world vividly to life.
Tickets and meal reservations are available online.
