Rittenhouse Flower Market Returns and Celebrates 105 Years
The 105th Rittenhouse Flower Market will be presented by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society on Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The oldest, continuously held event in the picturesque Rittenhouse Square, located at 19th and Walnut Streets, the Flower Market invites visitors of all ages to shop, learn and play under the famous yellow-and-white-striped tents.
A beloved tradition of Philadelphia’s spring season, the Rittenhouse Flower Market welcomes gardeners of all interest levels to connect with their neighbors and browse the wide selection of plants and flowers. Whether for the home or garden, visitors should find everything they need for their gardening efforts, including colorful annuals, herbs, shade-loving perennials, succulents, cacti and more. Knowledgeable staff will be on hand to answer gardening questions, help with plant selection, and share how visitors can get involved with PHS.
In addition to shopping, PHS will have activities for attendees of all ages to enjoy, including yard games, music, and fun for kids. While parents shop, children can enjoy face-painting, bubble machines, and Yoga for the Youth on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Children can print and color the Rittenhouse Flower Market poster to enter in the coloring contest. The winner will receive tickets to the 2020 Philadelphia Flower Show.
As part of International Compost Awareness Week, Laurel Valley Soils will offer their compost to Flower Market patrons for a donation of $5, with all proceeds benefitting PHS City Harvest, which improves access to fresh food for all city residents. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own bucket or bag to take home as much compost as they can carry and support community gardeners throughout the region.
Sponsors of the 105th Rittenhouse Flower Market are KIND Bars and Republic Bank.
