Pop Up Beer Garden Opens on South Street This Week With a “Summer of Love” Vibe
The PHS Pop Up Garden on South Street opens April 18, inviting visitors to celebrate the power of flowers with inspired food and drinks, exciting events, and engaging gardening activities amid nostalgic design elements and lush, meadow like plantings.
As part of PHS’s large network of public gardens and landscapes throughout the region, the PHS Pop Up Gardens help create healthier living environments and build deeper social connections among people and with their neighborhoods. By participating in programs and events, making a donation, or becoming a PHS member, visitors to the Pop Ups play an important role in advancing PHS’s mission of using horticulture to advance the greater good.
Located near the corner of 15th and South, the South Street Pop Up Garden will feature new signature drinks and delicious fare from the owners of Philadelphia restaurants including Khyber Pass Pub, Cantina Dos Segundos, Royal Tavern, Cantina Los Caballitos, and Triangle Tavern. Highlights include the “Flower Power Sour” (Powers Irish Whiskey, sour, hibiscus and rose hips bitters), the “Froze Petal” (rosé, Lo-Fi, strawberry, rose petal simple), Frito Pie (chili, cheddar, sour cream, shredded lettuce, tomato), buffalo ranch popcorn, and ice cream treats from Ben & Jerry’s. A selection of craft beers, non-alcoholic beverages, and other food will also be available from the full menu.
Throughout the season, the garden will host a range of creative events, including plant exchanges, macramé classes, make-and-take crafts for kids, flower crown Fridays, PHS Rain Check workshops, and much more. Every Tuesday starting in May, PHS will present horticultural programs where visitors can learn helpful gardening tips. A detailed calendar of programs and events are available here. As a special tribute to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, DJ Robert Drake (WXPN) will transport guests to different musical eras during his Sunday sets – called “Brunch Drunk Love” – all summer long.
Guests of all ages (and their canine companions) are encouraged to visit the garden for an opening weekend party on April 20 with drink specials, prize giveaways, live music, and more. The South Street Pop Up is open through October 2019, Monday through Thursday from 5 pm—10 pm, Friday and Saturday from 2 pm to midnight, and Sunday from noon to 10 pm.
