No Way José (Cuervo)! Wednesday Is National Margarita Day!!!
Get ready to call out of work on Thursday because Wednesday, February 22nd is National Margarita Day! National Margarita Day was started to celebrate the margarita and all the reasons that we drink them. Whether you’re toasting over tacos, dreaming of warmer climates or hanging with old friends, there’s always a good reason to enjoy a margarita. Check out the Top Places to celebrate National Margarita Day in Philly…
Mad Mex University City (3401 Walnut Street) It may be a chain but they can make a mean margarita. Back in college, I went for the Happy Hour Specials but stayed for the margaritas. They are not afraid to experiment with flavors, this is evident in the menu (Corn Beef Tacos, anyone?) as well as seasonal margarita flavors like their bright green Kiwi Margarita. They are celebrating National Margarita Day by offering Happy Hour prices on their House margaritas all day long. They come in 3 sizes: the 12 oz. for $3, the 16oz for $5 and the Big Azz for $7, plus there are lots of flavors to choose from. You can get Original or Fruity (Black Cherry, Raspberry, Mango, Strawberry, Passion Fruit or Sangria Blur), frozen or on the rocks.
Taproom on 19th (2400 S. 19th St) A South Philly corner bar is not the first place you think of when it comes to good margaritas but you would be surprised. At Taproom, they are all about doing things the old-fashioned way, that means infusing the tequila themselves, using fresh lime juice and house-made simple syrup. Dozens of giant glass jars line the walls near the bar with their latest infusions. Last week’s feature was Blackberry Tequila. In honor of National Margarita Day , for just $5 you can get the Tequila Por Mi Amante, Tequila infused with strawberries and one with raspberries, mixed with agave and lime juice. The tequila is infused in-house with the strawberries for 30 days before served. Give them a try and you won’t be disappointed.
Bar Bombón (133 S. 18th St) An apple a day keeps the doctor away but Bar Bombón takes it a step further and makes it into a margarita. When you see the La Manzana on the menu at this Vegan Rittenhouse eatery, you may second guess the thought of an apple margarita. Just like everything else on the menu, it’s surprising and delicious. The La Manzana is made with tequila blanco, apple, orange liqueur, lime and winter spice. It’s like apple cider and a margarita had a delicious boozy baby!
Cantina Los Caballitos (1651 E. Passyunk Ave.) – This East Passyunk favorite is a tequila lovers dream. With over 75 different Tequila options, there’s sure to be something to satisfy even the most discerning of Tequila connoisseurs. To celebrate National Margarita Day, they are offering $5 classic margaritas and $22 classic pitchers ALL DAY!
Lucha Cartel (207 Chestnut St) While the name sounds like a sketchy underground wrestling ring, it’s actually a cute Old City Mexican place with great margaritas and excellent food. With decor inspired by Mexican Sugar Skulls and food rooted in traditional Mexican flavors, this place is a must-try if you are a fan of Mexican food. If you like your margaritas with a kick, you have to order their Pinapple Jalapeno Margarita. It’s made with Jalapeno infused Tequila, simple syrup, fresh squeezed lime and pineapple juice. Stop by for Happy Hour and enjoy $5 #Margaritas from 4pm – 7pm.
