Laurel Hill’s Cinema in the Cemetery Returns With a Screening of Night of the Living Dead, Plus a Pop-Up Market and Food Trucks

A cult classic meets one of Philly’s most historic settings as Cinema in the Cemetery returns with a special screening of Night of the Living Dead (1968) on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Laurel Hill East Cemetery (3822 Ridge Ave.).

Presented in collaboration with the Philadelphia Film Society, the event offers a unique moviegoing experience under the stars—set among the scenic grounds of Laurel Hill East.  Tickets are available at laurelhillphl.com/events/

The evening will feature:

  • A pop-up market with local artists and vendors (lineup TBA)
  • Food trucks serving a variety of bites
  • Beer and beverages available on-site
  • A relaxed, bring-your-own-blanket outdoor setting

Directed by George A. Romero, Night of the Living Dead follows a group of strangers trapped in a rural Pennsylvania farmhouse as they fend off an onslaught of flesh-eating ghouls. While the film refers to its creatures as “ghouls,” it is widely credited with shaping the modern concept of zombies in pop culture.

Watching the genre-defining film in a historic cemetery adds an extra layer of atmosphere, making it a must-attend for horror fans and movie lovers alike.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early, with activities kicking off at 7:00 p.m. before the film begins at dusk (around 8:30 p.m.).

Bonus Event: “Mini Cinema – A Bucket Full of Blood…and Dye”

The series continues the following week with a more hands-on (and colorful) experience.

On Friday, May 8, 2026, Laurel Hill East will host Mini Cinema: A Bucket of Blood—a cult classic screening paired with a tie-dye session.

Guests can expect:

  • A screening of A Bucket of Blood
  • A tie-dye activity (shirts provided, or bring your own items)
  • Popcorn and a selection of drinks included
  • A casual BYO setup for chairs and snacks

The event runs from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and is free for Antemortem Members.
