The giant disco ball is spinning once again! One of South Philly’s best dance club destinations is back open and brings with it a new kitchen to focus on more than just the nightlife. After being closed due to the pandemic, Dolphin Tavern returns with theme dance parties, disco-vibe dance floor, painted murals, quirky wall art and music entertainment. Additionally, locals can now flock to this corner bar before the lights go down for happy hour drinks and quintessential bar bites, including a $1 taco menu. Besides a new kitchen, an intimate stage will also debut as the Dolphin team works to add more live music acts to their already popular DJ entertainment, quizzo, karaoke and theme night schedule. Dolphin Tavern is currently open Wednesday to Saturday from 4:00pm to 2:00am, with food service from 4:00pm to 9:00pm. Dolphin Tavern is available for private rentals Sunday to Tuesday. Dolphin Tavern is located at 1539 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia PA 19147. It is located steps away from the Tasker Morris entrance to the Broad Street Line. Free street parking is located on all surrounding streets.

“We are thrilled to announce the re-opening of one of South Philly’s most beloved dance clubs,” said FCM’s Special Events Director Neina Langford. “During the shut-down, Dolphin Tavern’s team was working behind the scenes to add to the experience with a new food menu and kitchen, new stage, more programming and other surprises. As a welcome back, we are offering a $1 taco menu for the remainder of the summer. Nothing says summer, celebration and feel-good vibes quite like dollar tacos to add to the party.”
For its grand return, Dolphin Tavern will debut its first food menu ever – including made to order tacos for only one dollar that are available during all operating kitchen hours, which is currently 4:00pm to 9:00pm. The price tag is no indicator of the flavor and quality that the menu offers. Four taco options including vegetarian verdura taco, slow braised suadero, carnitas taco with crispy pork and classic tinga de pollo tacos all come on corn tortillas topped with fresh garnishes. The full re-opening menu is as follows:

ONE DOLLAR TACOS

(on a corn tortilla, orders of 3, no mixing)

* Vendura – roasted veggies, queso fresco, avocado puree GF
* Tinga De Pollo – chipotle braised chicken, shaved lettuce, queso fresco, sour cream, cilantro GF
* Carnitas – crispy pork, salsa verde, cilantro, onion
* Suadero – slow braised brisket, salsa verde, cilantro, onion GF

SNACKS AND SMALL PLATES

* Chips and Salsa – corn tortilla chips, salsa roja y verde $6 GF
* Nachos – pickled jalapeño, red onion, sour cream, tomato, cilantro, refried beans, queso mixto $9 (add pork carnitas, brisket, or chicken tinga +3)
* Guacamole – fresh avocado, lime, cilantro, jalapeño, tomato, red onion, corn tortilla chips $10
* Quesadillas – flour tortilla, salsa roja, sour cream, queso chihuahua $7 (add chicken tinga, pork carnitas, or roasted vegetables +3
* Burrito – rice, refried beans, sour cream, queso mixto, pickled onions $10 (choice of brisket, chicken, veggie or pork carnitas)
As the perfect pairing for dollar tacos, Dolphin Tavern will offer a special summer happy hour Wednesday to Saturday, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, with Tecate for $2 and Margaritas (rocks/frozen) for only $4 each.
For music and entertainment, Dolphin Tavern enters its next phase with a stacked entertainment schedule. In addition to the investment of adding a kitchen, Dolphin Tavern has shown an investment into its live music endeavours which can be seen in the structural addition of a stage, and the purchase of the former Boot & Saddle’s sound system. Boot & Saddle, the indie rock venue that permanently closed its doors in November due to the pandemic, was a crucial part of the music scene since 2013 in South Philadelphia. The Dolphin hopes it can help offer local acts, especially indie rock acts, a new, much needed place to call home.
Select dates with bands are scheduled for live music lovers, with more getting added by the day. The first scheduled Early Show is set to start this Saturday, July 17th with featured acts The Warhawks, Redtouchblack and the UgLi. The addition of bands and live music acts are only a layer on top of the DJ, dance and themed entertainment nights. ABBArama, with DJ David Atlas, is scheduled every second Saturday of the month. It is an evening full of 70’s and 80’s pop-disco music, with 70’s dress strongly encouraged, that is sure to get guests of all ages on their feet to dance the night away. Thursday nights are destined to become a go-to night out the third Thursday of every month with themed night Dumdum Juice, an evening of multiple DJ sets, and pop-up drag entertainment. Fan-favorite Wednesday night karaoke night with host Pat Pharari is scheduled to return come August for the first time since the pandemic.

Evenings with The Early Show, featuring rotating local live music acts, are scheduled to start at 7:00pm with entry cost around $15, depending on acts. Guests can anticipate DJ entertainment and a cover charge on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights starting at 9:00pm ranging from $5/$15.  Full special musical acts and performers can be found by visiting DolphinPhilly.com or by visiting their facebook page.
