Five Dollar Comedy Week Features 30 Brand New Shows for $5!

Consider this the ultimate cheap date.  From March 23rd until the 29th, Philadelphia’s cheapest comedy festival, Five Dollar Comedy Week kicks-off the spring season with a week of brand new, original shows in the nation’s second oldest theater, Plays & Players (1714 Delancy St).

The locally sourced festival premieres over 30 unique and experimental comedy shows produced by Philadelphia’s funniest.  The shows are of every variety: talk shows, game shows, telethons, reality shows and more featuring hearty doses of stand-up, sketch, improv, storytelling, music, interactivity and more!

The Five Dollar Comedy Week includes an incredibly varied schedule, from a show where comedians pitch ideas and products to some of Philly’s top entrepreneurs (Pitch Bucket-Monday, March 23rd at 10 PM) to show where Doogie Horner Plucks regular people from the crowd and turns them into stand-up comics (It’s My First Time – Tuesday, March 24th at 8 pm) to a show where comics, astrologists, palm readers and psychics collide (Astromedy– Friday March 27th at 10 PM) to comedy show limited almost entirely to dancing (Just Dance– Saturday, March 28th at 7 PM) and so much more in between.

All of that, plus envelope-pushing late night secret shows and special $5 workshops, covering broad-ranging subjects like health (Chillates/Cold Yoga– Saturday, March 28th at 4 PM), Music (Songwriting with the Swaymus Brothers– Friday, March 27th at 4 PM) and personal betterment (Unlocking Your Superpower– Thursday, March 26th at 4 PM).

Five Dollar Comedy Week is organized by Aaron Nevins (Hang On, Courses) and Kate Banford (Test Pilot, Mani Pedi).  The two producers are at the forefront of offbeat comedy here in Philadelphia.  Philly Voice has stated, “Nevins represents a new wave of experimentation” In a recent interview with Banford’s mom, she says, “Kate’s doing great work on those skits.”
