Fishtown Social, (1525 Frankford Ave.) one of the top destinations for natural wines in Philadelphia, has started donating proceeds from various draft wine kegs to a number of local charities, with a different cause benefitted with each keg.

Every several days or so, Fishtown Social owner Vanessa Wong takes one draft wine keg — which will fill approximately 25 bottles — and sells them to-go for $10 apiece, with 100% of proceeds benefitting a different local charity. Every time a keg is kicked, Wong makes a donation, and then taps another keg and identifies the next cause. To date, Wong has raised nearly $3,000 and divided it between Philabundance, Papermill Food Hub,Mama-Tee Community Fridge, People’s Kitchen, Everybody Eats, Lutheran Settlement House, Friends of Ha Brown, and the Sunday Love Project, among others.

“We plan to keep this going as long as we can source kegs from natural wine producers, and empty bottles to fill them with,” said Wong, who began this initiative in early January. “I wantedto use my business to help as many people as possible, so I decided to do something to help organizations that take care ofpeople around Philadelphia. Every keg kicked represents a different charity we get to help. Even when we reopen for indoor dining and drinking – which we are hoping to do sometime in April — we plan to continue this fundraising. As long as we can find good wine, we’re keeping this going.” Fishtown Social’s bottle shop is currently open seven days a week.
