Carson Wentz is One of the Top 10 Highest-Paid Athletes in the World According to Forbes!
Looks like the Army of One is actually an army of 182 million. Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz was just named to Forbes’ Highest-Paid Athletes in 2020.
Carson Wentz, who inked a four-year, $128 million deal last June also earned $54 million in bonuses in the first 12 months. This puts Carson not too far from $200 million. Last year Russell Wilson was ranked No. 6 in with $80 million, thanks to a blockbuster deal that included a $57.5 million bonus, but was a no-show in 2020 according to Forbes. However, Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins is ranked ahead of Carson at #9 with $60.5 million in earnings.
Some notable surprises to this year’s list is Roger Federer shooting from No. 5 last year to No. 1 in 2020. In addition super star soccer players Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi both dropped from the top two spots from last year. Even with their salaries being cut in lieu of the economic fallout from COVID-19 both rank 2 and 3 respectively. Cristiano with $105 million and Messi with $104 million. Not far behind at #4 is Neymar with $95.5 million
Soccer players are definitely banking and it looks like the NBA plays second fiddle as the number 5, 6, and 7 spots belong to NBA players. Lebron at #5 with $88.2 million, #6 Stephen Curry with $74.4 million and #7 Kevin Durant with $63.9 million. Also surprising is that no MLB players made this year’s top 10.
In terms of sponsorships Forbes stated, “The top 100 earned a combined $1.1 billion from endorsements, memorabilia and appearance fees, up 11% from last year, on top of a 12% gain in 2019. Nike has the most athletes on the list under contract, with 51 of the top 100, capped by the sneaker giant’s $30 million-plus signature deal with LeBron James. Adidas endorses 16 athletes in the top 100, including those under its Reebok brand. Forbes can document 13 athletes sponsored by PepsiCo and its Gatorade and Mountain Dew brands.”
