A Large Drone Show Will Take Place at Independence Mall Featuring Hundreds of Drones Depicting Historical Moments and Symbols
Philadelphia’s biggest day of patriotic celebrations is getting an exciting new finale.
Organizers of the annual Red, White, & Blue To-Do have announced that this year’s festivities will conclude with the debut of the Independence Illumination Drone Show, an aerial spectacle featuring hundreds of illuminated drones soaring above Independence Mall on the evening of Thursday, July 2.
Taking place at 9 p.m., the 13-minute show will feature patriotic imagery, historic moments, and iconic symbols from America’s 250-year journey brought to life in the night sky above the birthplace of the nation.
The drone show serves as the grand finale to the third annual Red, White, & Blue To-Do, a day-long celebration produced by the Philadelphia Historic District 250th Committee and 23 partner organizations in honor of the day the Second Continental Congress voted for independence in 1776.
A Full Day of Free Events
Designed as an all-day celebration of America’s Semiquincentennial, the Red, White, & Blue To-Do will transform Philadelphia’s Historic District with free events, performances, parades, concerts, and family-friendly activities from sunrise through evening.
The festivities begin at 7 a.m. with the Living Liberty Bell, where 250 participants dressed in red, white, and blue will gather on Independence Mall to form the shape of the iconic Liberty Bell. This year’s participants include all 53 Miss America delegates and the reigning Miss America.
Historic sites and museums throughout Old City will open throughout the morning before the annual Red, White, & Blue To-Do Pomp & Parade steps off at 11 a.m. from the National Constitution Center.
The colorful procession will feature 13 whimsical red wagon floats inspired by Philadelphia history and culture, along with youth performance groups, drill teams, cultural dance troupes, and performers from around the world.
Following the parade, visitors can enjoy the All-American Block Party from noon to 2 p.m. on 3rd Street, featuring games, activities, food trucks, music, and attractions from participating Historic District organizations.
From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., WXPN Welcomes the Red, White, & Blue Music Series, bringing 28 free performances to 11 locations throughout the Historic District. The series will showcase a diverse range of musical styles and traditions, encouraging visitors to explore the neighborhood while discovering new artists and cultural experiences.
The celebration continues with the Red, White, & Rosé Picnic from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Independence Mall. Guests can relax on picnic seating, enjoy food trucks, and preview the elaborate floats that will be featured in the July 3 Salute to Independence Semiquincentennial Parade during Float Fest.
Queen Latifah Headlines Evening Celebration
The evening’s entertainment culminates with Wawa Welcome America’s Salute to Service beginning at 7 p.m. on Independence Mall.
The free concert will feature the renowned United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus alongside Philadelphia native and award-winning entertainer Queen Latifah. The performance honors America’s military service members while celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday in the city where independence began.
A New Tradition for America’s 250th
New for 2026, the Independence Illumination Drone Show promises to be one of the most memorable moments of the city’s Semiquincentennial celebrations.
Hundreds of synchronized drones will create animated displays and patriotic scenes high above Independence Mall, telling the story of America’s first 250 years through light and motion.
With free events running from dawn until nightfall, the Red, White, & Blue To-Do offers Philadelphians and visitors alike a unique opportunity to celebrate American independence where history was made.
