It seems like everywhere you turn there’s a new hard seltzer coming out.  But what if you’re in the market for a non-alcoholic drink that feels like a seltzer? Well a couple of Philly college grads and a partner developed such a drink and it’s been making waves in the Philly area.

Loki, which claims to be “a euphoric alternative to alcohol, that keeps us creative, social, and immersed in the moment,” was founded by Ashish Joseph (Drexel), Rikin Patel (University of the Sciences) and their friend and PA native Harji Singh. “The Brand started when Harji and Rikin were hanging out together and they tried one of the Delta 8 Gummies that Ashish had sent to Rikin. Harji and Rikin were drinking High Noon Seltzers and thought it would be cool to create a Delta 8 Seltzer. They saw that there was no brand that was a market leader yet. They realized that there was a huge demand for an alternative to alcohol in the market since nobody likes getting hangovers the next day so they wanted to avoid drinking alcohol,” states Daniel Shuey who is head of the Greater Philadelphia market.

For those not familiar with Delta 8, it is a psychoactive cannabinoid found in the Cannabis plant.  In the case of Loki, “We believe LOKI represents the future of non-alcoholic beverages. A delicious, sociable drink infused with Delta-8, that leaves consumers feeling creative and inspired.” The actual ingredients include water, hemp derived – Delta 8 THC, blend of Stevia & Erythritol, natural flavors and citric acid.

“We try to avoid sugars because it’s in almost every drink and we are trying to keep this a very low calorie and create a product that even non-cannabis users would consider trying and becoming loyal to the brand. There are other companies coming out with 200 mg or 500 mg drinks but our body can’t even metabolize that many mgs of THC. This drink lets you stay extroverted and have fun without all the regrets in the next morning. The beauty of Delta 8 is that it tends to be more of a social experience over regular cannabis consumption, therefore it lend itself to be a better alternative to alcohol, Dan adds.

As for the name. Loki is a play on “low key.” Apparently the founders aren’t the flashy type and try to keep a low key profile. The Loki team has been working hard sponsoring events and working festivals to get their product noticed in the Philly market. “Philly is home to most of the founders having spent their college years here. They grew up in the suburbs of Philly and worked in Philly and started businesses in Philly. They love seeing the places they used to go to carry their drink. It’s cool to go out in their hometown and see their drink at a bar or store,” states Dan.
