Let Them Eat Cake — the foodie event that invites the most creative confectionary talent from across the region to compete in one of the nation’s biggest cake-off fundraisers to benefit Variety — the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley — will take place at the Loews Hotel’s Millennium Ballroom on Sunday, February 24, from 6-8 p.m. Twenty-five of the area’s best pastry chefs will bring this year’s theme — Under the Sea — to life.

Now in its 16th year, Let them Eat Cake has earned a reputation as one of the premier culinary events on the Philadelphia calendar. Guests will enjoy sampling dramatic and delicious creations while sipping on cocktails, wine and other beverages. Music will be provided by Mole Street making for a fun and upbeat backdrop in one of Philadelphia’s most iconic ballrooms. Most importantly, all proceeds of the affordable $40 ticket cost (in advance; $50 at door) go to support children with special needs.

This year’s focus is on Variety Works — where teens and young adults with disabilities learn real job skills.

“Variety Works is a program that helps teens and young adults with disabilities find work in the community,” says Director of Programs, Heather Rothman, Variety — the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley. “The success of this program has been phenomenal, but we couldn’t do it without the support of events like Let Them Eat Cake. Not only does this event have amazing and delicious cake, but all proceeds go to helping us grow this program and help more people.”

Additionally, representatives from the Philadelphia Eagles will help give away two adaptive tricycles to a special boy and girl, while Eagles’ mascot Swoop poses with attendees for photos at 6pm.

A panel of celebrities and noted culinary experts will determine this year’s Best in Showwinner based on taste, theme, aesthetic, creativity and use of ingredients. Additional awards will be given for Best Tasting Cake, Best Design, Best Theme, Best Student Entry and Audience Choice Award.

Three of this year’s competitors will be aspiring chefs from The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill.
