The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum Is Hosting a Free Fishing Night With All Equipment Included
Families, outdoor enthusiasts, and first-time anglers are invited to cast a line this summer as Fish250 Free Fishing Night launches at John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum.
Taking place June 4 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., the free all-ages event challenges participants to help catch 250 fish before July 4 in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
The kickoff event is part of a larger citywide fishing initiative that will continue throughout the summer at the refuge and partner locations across Philadelphia. Organizers will track the total number of fish caught as the community works toward the 250-fish milestone ahead of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebrations.
Held at the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, located at 8601 Lindbergh Boulevard, the event is designed to make fishing accessible for everyone, regardless of experience level. All fishing supplies, gear, bait, and instruction will be provided free of charge.
The program aims to connect residents with Philadelphia’s outdoor spaces while encouraging environmental awareness, recreation, and hands-on learning through fishing and wildlife education.
As the nation prepares for America’s 250th anniversary, Fish250 blends outdoor fun with community engagement, inviting participants to celebrate the country’s milestone through one of America’s classic pastimes.
The event is open to all ages and experience levels. Guests are encouraged to arrive early and dress comfortably for an evening outdoors along the refuge’s waterways.
