There’s an Adults-Only Overnight Experience Onboard the Battleship New Jersey With Guided Tours, Chowline-Style Meals, and More
Looking for a truly unique night out? The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial is once again inviting guests aboard for its Adults-Only Overnight Encampment, offering a rare chance to experience life on a historic naval vessel—without the kids.
Docked along the Camden Waterfront just across from Penn’s Landing, the legendary Battleship New Jersey (BB-62) will open its hatches for adults seeking a unique mix of history, nostalgia, and immersive adventure.
While the overnight encampment program is typically reserved for scouts and youth groups, select dates throughout the year are dedicated exclusively to adults. The Adults-Only Night gives guests the opportunity to fully take in the experience of living like a sailor aboard the most decorated battleship in U.S. Naval history.
This all-inclusive overnight experience recreates life aboard the ship, offering guests a firsthand look at what daily life was like for the sailors who once served on it.
Participants will:
- Sleep in authentic Navy bunks
- Store belongings in real ship lockers
- Enjoy a chowline-style dinner and breakfast in the Crew’s Mess
It’s a rare opportunity to step into history and experience the routines and environments that defined life at sea.
The evening begins with dinner, followed by a guided tour through some of the ship’s most fascinating spaces. Guests will explore areas that once played critical roles in naval operations, including:
- A massive 16-inch gun turret
- The Captain’s and Admiral’s cabins
- The Officer’s Wardroom
- Various operational decks and passageways
Along the way, guests will climb through original ladders and tight corridors, gaining a true sense of the ship’s design and functionality.
The experience continues the following morning with additional hands-on educational programs, where museum educators dive into the science, engineering, and firepower behind the battleship—including how its nine 16-inch guns could hit targets nearly 23 miles away.
Beyond the immersive experience, the overnight stay offers a deeper understanding of the Battleship New Jersey’s role in major global conflicts, including:
- World War II
- The Korean War
- The Vietnam War
- The Persian Gulf War
