Women’s Sports Will Take Center Stage at Philly’s First Women’s Sports Bar, Marsha’s, Opening on South Street

Philadelphia is about to welcome a groundbreaking new venue with the opening of Marsha’s (430 South St.) — the city’s first-ever queer women’s sports bar. Founded by Philadelphia native Chivonn Anderson, Marsha’s officially opens its doors on Friday, September 19, 2025, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:00 p.m., inviting the public to experience this vibrant new community hub.

Located on South Street, Marsha’s is designed to be a welcoming, inclusive space where the LGBTQ+ community, women, and sports fans of all kinds can come together to celebrate sports, culture, and connection. The name honors Marsha P. Johnson, the iconic Black transgender activist and trailblazer of the LGBTQ+ rights movement.

“I want to make Marsha’s an anchor for Philadelphia — for the queer community, for the sports community, and for anybody that just wants to go out and have fun and feel safe and be seen,” said Anderson.

Food, Drinks, and Programming

Marsha’s will serve classic bar favorites alongside a rotating menu of signature cocktails and mocktails, providing options for everyone. Beyond food and drink, the bar will emphasize inclusive and representative programming:

  • Women’s sports will take center stage on the TVs

  • All Philadelphia teams will also be featured

  • Dedicated screens will showcase queer film and television to ensure queer stories stay visible in the space
