U-Bahn Opens Next Week and is Literally an Underground Bar

Named after the subway in Berlin, U-Bahn is the subtarranean brainchild of Brü owner Teddy Sourias.  Originally planned to be a private party space, Teddy has transformed it into Midtown Village’s next big thing.

Located right next door to Brü, U-Bahn (1320 Chestnut St.) will be a basement level bar that will have a totally different vibe from its sister bar.  For starters Teddy plans to book plenty of bands for live entertainment.  In fact their website is currently soliciting acts to rock out at this hip new spot.  Patrons will discover two bars and a kitchen cranking out an original menu consisting of cheeseboards, gourmet sandwiches, and organic veggie options.  Beer lovers who fell in love with Brü will be happy to know that U-Bahn will also have an amazing selection of beers but will focus mainly on local breweries.

As for the layout this 3,300 sq. ft. space boasts bars constructed of reclaimed wood, polished concrete floors, and plenty of exposed metal to give the place a real subway station feel.  In addition U-Bahn will also feature old school arcade games for added entertainment.  For those looking to mix a little business with pleasure there will also be a private area featuring state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment for meetings and private parties.

Teddy has also solved the problem of serving signature cocktails without having to wait on a bartender to make it all come together.  Instead, U-Bahn will feature cocktails on tap.  This will cut down the waiting time as well as increase the flavor as fermentation sets in, giving drinks a bolder and more refreshing taste.

All-in-all this is definitely a beer drinking haven and another notch in Center City’s belt for continuing to provide quality venues that keep millennials and the spending crowd downtown.  There is no official word yet on the exact day U-Bahn will open but their site and social media pages have confirmed the opening to be next week.
