Serial board-game collector Matt Hendricks is adding a fun twist to the otherwise stale cafe scene.  We’ve seen just about every hipster’ish themed cafe where folks come in with their MacBook Pros looking productive but are really just giving themselves LinkedIn endorsements from ghost accounts.  I digress.  Sometimes folks just want to go some place other than a typical bar and have some fun.  So why do cafes have to have the stigma of being a place of doing fake busy work just because there’s wifi?  Alast Mr. Hendricks has the solution.  This spring the new Thirsty Dice Cafe will open at 1642 Fairmount Ave.

Aside from of course coffee, Thirsty Dice will also offer a simple comfort food menu.  Although we’d love to hear that there will be a wide-range of food selections, we understand the concerns.  You can’t eat messy foods and play board-games at the same time., for obvious reasons.  No one wants to unfold the Trouble game-board and find spaghetti stains all over it. The games themselves will be extensive to say the least. Matt is looking to have anywhere from 800 to 1,000 board-games ready to be enjoyed!

I already know what you’re thinking.  That’s a helluva lot of games, so how can anyone choose?  Well, the staff at Thirsty Dice will also include “Game Tenders.”  Game Tenders will be on-hand and will essentially be bartenders for games.  Their roles will be to assist guests with finding the perfect games as well as explain the objectives and rules of each game.  Come to think of it, this makes me a little upset that my high school guidance counselor didn’t make me aware that such a career existed.

Of course the classics such as Guess Who? Connect Four, Monopoly, and Clue will be on-hand but there will also be newer selections including Codenames, Catan, and Carcassone.  Matt has also alluded to stocking up on more “edgier” games as well.

Although, no official date has been set, Thirsty Dice, is already a must-check-out place for me.  So we’ll keep you guys updated as we receive more info.  In the meantime you may want to start brushing up on your Battleship skills, so you can go in this place and assert your dominance.
