Mariah Carey is seeking her spot back in the limelight with her new album, Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse. On the new album Mimi channels that classic Mariah sound. Long time fans will feel a bit nostalgic with this one.
Her voice is as beautiful as ever, and she still has her incredible range. Where Mimi falls short is in bringing anything new to a vastly changed R&B world dominated by the likes of Beyonce and Rihanna. Despite lacking a majorly successful pop hit, the familiar sound of Mariah’s emotional love ballads will be appreciated by those looking for something that is more soft and subtle. Others will be disappointed by Mariah’s inability to evolve as a songstress. She sticks to what she knows and does it well, but this album doesn’t produce any singles that will be among her most memorable.
Mariah enlists the help of several big names to bolster the albums appeal. Nas, Wale, Fabolous, and Miguel all make appearances and definitely add to the quality of the album by helping to give the LP some needed variety.
