Uchi Launching Fall Collaboration Series With Chef Kevin Yanaga Featuring a 10-Course Menu

Uchi, chef Tyson Cole’s Japanese restaurant located inside the Josephine at 1620 Sansom Street in Rittenhouse, will launch a fall collaboration series on Thursday, September 24, ahead of the restaurant’s one-year anniversary in November. The series will begin with Kevin Yanaga of Yanaga Kappo Izakaya, known as “The Sushi Whisperer.”

The event will take place at Uchi’s 13-seat sushi bar, along with surrounding tables offering full views of the bar. The dinner will feature a collaborative 10-course menu prepared by Chef Yanaga, Uchi Head Sushi Chef Josephine Fry, and Uchi Chef de Cuisine Ford Sonnenberg, featuring sashimi, nigiri and other Japanese dishes.

Dinner costs $175 per person, plus tax and gratuity, for seating at the sushi bar, and $150 per person, plus tax and gratuity, for surrounding table seating. An optional sake pairing will also be available. The event will offer two seatings, at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., with each seating limited to 25 guests. Reservations can be made through SevenRooms.

Chef Ford Sonnenberg said he has spent his first year in Philadelphia hearing about Chef Yanaga’s history and reputation in the city. “Everyone calls him ‘the sushi whisperer,’ and I am so excited to work alongside him,” Sonnenberg said, adding that he expects the collaboration to be both a valuable learning experience and an enjoyable night for guests.

Following this first dinner, Uchi plans to host two additional collaboration dinners in October and November featuring guest chefs who will be announced in the coming weeks on Instagram.
