The Wanamaker Light Show and Dickens Village Need Your Help. Here’s How You Can Help Save These Philly Holiday Traditions
A cherished Philly holiday tradition is one step closer to returning. More than 500 donors have already contributed to the Save the Light Show campaign, which aims to bring back the beloved Wanamaker Light Show and Dickens Village for the 2025 holiday season. Organizers are now launching a final public fundraising push to reach their $350,000 goal.
The campaign’s final stretch begins on Tuesday, September 16, marking 100 days until Christmas. Organizers hope to rally widespread community support, culminating in a citywide “$12.25 Giving Day” on Thursday, September 25.
The initiative encourages Philadelphians to donate $12.25—or any amount—symbolizing the 12/25 holiday date, as a show of collective support to preserve the tradition.
The campaign’s online donation page has become an unexpected archive of holiday nostalgia. Donors have shared stories about their first childhood visits, family rituals, and emotional ties to these iconic holiday displays, creating a public testament to their cultural significance.
For decades, the Wanamaker Light Show and Dickens Village have been a centerpiece of Philadelphia’s holiday season, drawing thousands of visitors each year. Following the closure of Macy’s Center City earlier this year, the Save the Light Show campaign represents the community’s opportunity to ensure these beloved traditions continue for future generations.
