This past weekend the popular nightlife venue The Barbary (951 Frankford Ave.) made a return with an unannounced soft opening. Just recently their social media page on Instagram posted a simple message of “We’re Back!” However, owner Ravi Bayanker breaks the silence to release an official statement.

“Ever since moving to Philly 11 years ago I’ve been looking for a place to dance that felt like my favorite clubs from around the world; a place with a sense of adventure. A place that offered multiple rooms of music, good flow, an outdoor area and somewhere to chill when I needed a break. A place with proper sound & lighting rigs. A place without a dress code, that booked all my favorite DJs and was comfortable for all… and that had clean bathrooms !! Ultimately, a place to call home.
When we bought The Barbary in February 2019, my partner AJ and I had a vision. After a year of fixing immediate needs we were hit with the pandemic. After re-opening in Fall 2021 we began planning a full-scale renovation. And in February 2022 we paused operations and dove in.
The Barbary crowd is incredibly special and it pained all of us to leave people hanging for so long. All we could hope for is that it would be worth the wait. So far the feedback has been inspiring and we can’t wait for the next chapter. So yeah… we’re back!”
