The Goose Island Philadelphia Brewhouse in Fishtown Officially Closes!
As 2020 comes to a close in less than a month, the pandemic this year has ravaged local businesses especially restaurants. Now it looks as though yet another local favorite spot has succumbed. The Goose Island Philadelphia Brewhouse (1002 Canal St.) in Fishtown recently posted a farewell message to the folks of Philadelphia.
The Chicago-based brewery tried to tough it out over the last several months but ultimately they decided “to make the difficult decision to close.” Strategically located in Fishtown adjacent to Punchline Philly Comedy club and steps away from The Fillmore, this pocket in Fishtown was bubbling with energy pre-COVID. The grassy lawn which was used for outdoor seating always seemed packed and lively. Now this once bustling entertainment strip has become dormant. There is no word just yet if Goose Island plans to revive the brewhouse in the future. Check out their statement below.
To our Philadelphia friends and neighbors,
As a direct result of the global health crisis, and the significant impact COVID-19 has had on our business in Philadelphia, we have had to make the difficult decision to close the Goose Island Philadelphia Brewhouse effective today. Over the past several months, the Goose Island team in Philadelphia has shown incredible resilience in the face of tough challenges. We are grateful for each employees’ contribution to making the Philly Brewhouse a true extension of Goose Island.
Philadelphia and its beer lovers will continue to be very important to Goose Island. Philadelphia has been our second home and we are so appreciative to the city for visiting, sharing beers with us and allowing us to be part of your hometown. Here’s to you, Philly.
